Fashion and film collide for a spectacular live celebration that honours the best of Indian cinema!
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2015, which runs from the 14th to 27th Aug,is the most exciting way to experience the best of Indian cinema. The IFFM showcases a heady mix of movies and live events that bring the magic of the world’s biggest film industry to the heart of Melbourne. This year, the festival’s theme is ‘Equality’ which highlights the strides and struggles in reaching equality in gender, religion, disability, and sexuality through the films shown during the festival.
The IFFM Awards Night was held on the 15th Aug 2015, which formally recognises the actors, films and filmmakers for their incredible artistry, and where could be better to hold this event than the home of the arts, the National Gallery of Victoria!
This year’s gala event also took to the catwalk a special show from Anamika Khanna as well as a showcase of various designers such as Gaurav Gupta, Richard Nylon, Roopa Pemmaraju and Susan Dimasi. Anamika Khanna’s exclusive collections are worn by Bollywood A-listers and was the first Indian designer to be invited to Paris Fashion Week. Sonam Kapoor, a famous Indian actress who also visited Melbourne, made her catwalk debut for Anamika at India’s Couture Week the following year. A Kingfisher Award winner for the Fashion Designer of the Year, Anamika is also an Associate Design member of the Fashion Design Council of India.
The IFFM have joined forces with Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) to hold a silent auction, proceeds from which all went to the RCH Foundation. It was a special night of stars, surprises, fashion and philanthropy as Melbourne welcome India’s film industry to the NGV.
