Entering it’s second decade, Australia’s favourite Urban Polo series, Land Rover Polo in the City, returned to Melbourne’s Albert Park, delivering the finest entertainment, hospitality and style for over 3000 ticketed and VIP guests.
Melbourne’s cityscape provided an iconic backdrop to two polo matches; the CGU v Asahi Pro-Am Challenge and National Polo League. Fierce interstate rivalry between the Pol Roger (Sydney) and Land Rover (Melbourne) teams saw Land Rover triumph, thanks to the impressive horsemanship of top players Luke O’Leary and Ric McCarthy to advance to the next leg of the National Polo League competition.
The vibrant Somersby Polo Lounge, offered spectators a front-row seat to the action in a comfortable ‘cider garden’ style marquee and hosted an enviable guest list of business, sporting, entertainment and media personalities including Alexandra Nation from The Bachelor, Julia and Sasha from The Block and TV personality Tully Smyth and an innovative beverage selection that included specially designed cocktails and Cider Sangria.
The exclusive Land Rover VIP marquee this year played on a chic ‘Miami holiday’ theme with wide-brimmed striped umbrellas, pineapples, banana leaves, palm trees and a pool feature that instantly transported guests from park to beach-side. Guests within the VIP marquee included Land Rover ambassador Jennifer Hawkins and Melbourne City Land Rover Ambassador Rebecca Judd.
Throughout the day, guests enjoyed stomping the divots kicked-up by the polo ponies and taking part in the traditional men and ladies dash – a 50-metre foot race. The Ladies’ Fashions on the Field presented by Chadstone, Fashion Capital and Men’s Politix Fashions on the Field showcased the best in polo fashion, with winners in the male and female categories with the winner enjoying prizes from a selection of Chadstone’s stores including Mecca Maxima, Reiss London and The Daily Edited.
The Urban Polo series, Land Rover Polo in the City, continues to make its way around the country with two further events scheduled in Perth on Saturday 3 December and Adelaide on Friday 9 December 2016.
