Swan Lake by the Shanghai Ballet

Very emotional portrayal of the Swan Lake performed by the Shanghai Ballet! The cast were very talented and the production outstanding, from the props, to lighting setup, up to the musical scoring. The main characters showcased a powerful performance worthy of standing ovation!

Did you know that the Shanghai Ballet was formally renamed in 1979 from it’s previous name The White-haired Girl? The White-haired Girl ballet won the Gold Medal of the Best Classical Dance Works of the 20th Century in China, which helped establish the Ballet’s predominant position in ballet circles in China.

With a performance history of thirty years, the Shanghai Ballet created and staged the ballet Jane Eyre,The Butterfly Lovers, A Sigh of Love, Echoes of Eternity, Hamlet, The Last Mission of Marco Polo, Shanghai Grand Theatre’s version of The Nutcracker. Besides, the repertoire of the company includes Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Coppélia, La Sylphide, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Don Quixote, Balanchine and Beyond, The Ode of Joy – Gala Performance.

Since its founding, many young dancers of the company have won total of 45 medals in various international dance competitions.

The Shanghai Ballet is active in cooperation and cultural exchange with the artists and companies both abroad and at home. The company not only tours nationwide but also has visited many countries and regions, including the U.S.A., U.K, Canada, France, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Finland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
