NSW win Origin Opener

NSW have won the opening State of Origin rugby league game 28-4 at Lang Park.

Leading 6-4 in a frantic first half, a Mitchell Pearce try right on halftime proved crucial.

The Blues ran away in the second half, with tries to James Tedesco (52nd minute), Andrew Fifita (55th minute) and Jarryd Hayne (60th minute).

NSW ‘s defence was just as good, cutting Queensland’s attempt at an unlikely comeback.

James Maloney – who kicked four goals from five attempts – scored NSW’s first try after six minutes. Corey Oates scored Queensland’s only try in the 35th minute.

Game two is on Wednesday June 21 at Homebush.
