Holmes leads Queensland’s series win

A Valentine Holmes hat-trick gave Queensland the 2017 State of Origin series infront of over 52,000 at Lang Park.

Holmes scored both of Queensland’s first half tries and his third in the second half as Queensland won 22-6 and the series 2-1.

Holmes became the fifth Queenslander to score an Origin hat-trick. It was the sixth time Queensland won the series after losing the first game.

Trailing 12-0 at halftime, NSW hinted at a comeback with a Josh Dugan try in the 48th minute.

Holmes’ third try (60th minute) and a Jarrod Wallace try (67th minute) ensured a comprehensive Queensland win, farewelling the injured Johnathan Thurston, who watched from the Queensland coaches box.

It was Queensland’s third straight Origin series win and their 11th since the original streak began in 2006.

After scoring 28 points in game one, NSW went scoreless from the 29th minute of game II to the 49th minute of game III.
