NRL Round 21: The Winners and Losers

Penrith = four straight wins, so close to the top eight.
Cronulla = briefly in second after beating the hopeless Warriors
Parramatta = brilliant win against Brisbane, trailing 12-0 early and winning 28-14.
Newcastle = third win this season, made up for close loss to Dragons a few weeks ago.
Canberra = much-needed win against Souths keeps faint finals hopes alive.
Sydney Roosters = came back from 16-6 against North Qld to win 22-16, brilliant effort.
Melbourne = perfect celebration for Cameron Smith’s 350th.
Wests Tigers = beating the Titans almost ensures they’ll avoid the spoon.

Canterbury = start planning for 2018.
NZ Warriors = going so badly they can’t even win at home anymore.
Brisbane = held scoreless in the second half, was this loss a minor hiccup or the start of another late slump?
St. George-Illawarra = will be lucky to stay in the top eight after losing to Newcastle.
Souths = it’s over with, that’s all she wrote for 2017.
North Qld = four-game winning streak over but still in touch with the top four.
Manly = lost 92-28 against Dragons and Melbourne, their top eight position is little more tenuous.
Gold Coast = disappointing afternoon at home, finals hopes gone.
