Legendary football commentator Les Murray (real name László Ürge) died today at 71.
A journalist since 1971, Murray was the face – and voice – of SBS’ football coverage. He hosted the SBS sports programs On the Ball (1984–2000), Toyota World Sports (1990 – 2006) and The World Game (2001–present).
For many Australians unfamiliar with the World Game, Murray was an instantly recognisable and iconic voice.
He wrote a book in 2011, The World Game: The Story of How Football Went Global.
