Deakin Melbourne Boomers vs Bendigo Bank Spirit
The WNBL traveled to the Geelong Arena for a Friday night clash with the Melbourne Boomers to taking on the Bendigo Spirit.
An amazing atmosphere saw the Boomers secure a convincing 90-63 win over the Spirit, leading through all four quarters.
Liz Cambage finished with a strong 25 points and 14 rebounds while Courtney Duever was second in scoring with 12 points off the bench.
Despite making efforts to close the gap in the second half, the Spirit were unable to come back from the Boomers who took control early.
For the Spirit, Nadeen Payne led them with 16 points but they were undersized all game without Kelsey Griffin or Gabe Richards, who were both out the Spirit line up.
University of Canberra Capitals vs Deakin Melbourne Boomers
Traveling to Canberra for their second game of the weekend, the Melbourne Boomers were able to come away with a 29 point win over the UC Capitals, securing the victory 92-63.
After a close first quarter, the Boomers pulled away from the Caps in the second, extending their lead to 12 points and then finished off a sweep of Round 2 courtesy of 27 points and nine rebounds from Cambage who was backed up by a 19-point game from Jenna O’Hea.
Despite their best efforts, the UC Capitals were unable to recover from the 30 point margin at three quarter time with only Nat Hurst and Ezi Magbegor reaching double-figures in scoring.
