Australian Ashes squad

Australia have announced their team for the first two Ashes Tests in Brisbane (November 23-27) and Adelaide (December 2-6), with a few surprises.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade and opening batsman Matthew Renshaw are dropped for Western Australia’s Cameron Bancroft and Tasmanian Tim Paine, who hasn’t played a Test in seven years. Wade never cemented his spot after he was picked for last summer’s Adelaide Test, while Renshaw’s poor Shield form cost him.

Shaun Marsh was given another opportunity after impressive form in the early Sheffield Shield rounds.

Pace bowler Chadd Sayers is in the squad, and could make his debut if named in the Gabba starting XI.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Jackson Bird make up the pace attack, supported by spinner Nathan Lyon.

AUSTRALIAN TEAM

Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird, Chadd Sayers.
